Emerson/DaVinci Bulletin - Thursday, March 8th, 2018

New and Timely Information:

  • Galapagos! Tonight at 6 pm come to DaVinci Junior High to see the 9th graders’ signature event, Galapagos. See animals that have faced environmental adversity and evolved to better survive, and learn how the different factors affect the environment. It starts at 6pm and runs until 7:30. If you’d like to see the culmination of a Progress-Based Learning project, this is a great opportunity.
  • The City of Davis presents Teen Glow Party! Friday, March 16th -9:00pm. Grades 7-9 at the Davis High School Community Gym.  Purchase tickets in advance to receive the discounted price.  Tickets available at City Hall Parks and Community Service Department or online at www.cityofdavis.org.  Questions?   • Leadership Class Applications Are you a current 7th or 8th grader looking for a great elective class to take next year? Do you like the idea of creating, planning and putting on school events/activities? Are you interested in developing your leadership skills in a fun, spirited and positive environment? Then Leadership may be just the class you’re looking for! Come to the Emerson or Da Vinci office and grab an application for next year’s Leadership class. Applications can be turned in with your Emerson or Da Vinci Course Planning sheets or they can be turned in to room B-4 on or before Wednesday, March 14th. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Lagunes in room B-2 or Ms. Kimmel in room B-4.
  • 7th and 8th graders: Has this school year gone the way you hoped? Are you earning the grades you dream of? Do you wish you had a group of people who were around every day to help you be more SUCCESSFUL? You should learn more about Emerson’s AVID program! AVID helps students become more successful in school, work together, learn about and discuss current events and important teen issues, discover different college and careers, go on field trips, do school service projects, participate in UCD student-led tutorials,  improve writing and reading skills, learn to study, take notes, and so much more! Talk to your teachers, your counselor, or Mrs. Wolfe in room A-1 for more information.   • Attention all 7th and 8th graders looking for an amazing elective class.Peer Helping Leadership Class Applications are available in both the Emerson and Da Vinci offices. The applications are due by Wednesday, March 14th to one of the offices or Ms. Terra. Description: Peer Helping is an elective class where we get to help create a positive, more inclusive, healthy, fun, safe and caring environment at Emerson and Da Vinci. Some of the ways we do this is by helping facilitate the Diversity Trainings, host new student breakfast, present about healthy friendships at the elementary schools, prepare food and feed homeless guest, offer one-on-one peer support, offer peer restorative practice/conflict mediation, attend Wellness and Substance abuse conference in Berkeley and support the 7th grade health classes with substance abuse prevention, stress management, anti-bullying presentations.

  • After School Assistance Program (ASAP) Monday – Thursday, 3:30pm – 5:00pm Emerson and Da Vinci Students: Need some help with homework? Looking to do better on that next math test? Want some help with that essay? Come to the After School Assistance Program (ASAP)! We’ll have teachers and staff there to assist you with all of the above. With progress reports coming home soon, this is an opportunity to get some assistance and make a plan for success. ASAP is free and available to all students. Drop by ASAP and get the help you need!
