Emerson and Da Vinci Students: Need some help with homework? Looking to do better on that next math test? Want some help with that essay? Come to the After School Assistance Program (ASAP)! We’ll have teachers and staff there to assist you with all of the above. With progress reports coming home soon, this is an opportunity to get some assistance and make a plan for success. ASAP is free and available to all students. Drop by ASAP and get the help you need!

New and Timely Information:

 

  • Students and staff- Eagles and Pandas are important, but so are other animals like the pets we have at home. Over the next two weeks the leadership class is helping collect donations for our local SPCA’s. If you would like to contribute, please bring in old and tattered towels and blankets (clean), and/or newspapers to one of the purple marked boxes in the Emerson or Da Vinci office. Thanks for your help!
  • The DHS Math Club - Mu Alpha Theta Honor society - is excited to announce our 9th Annual Davis Math Tournament!! The event will be held this Saturday, April 28th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m in the N-wing. There will be guides in the parking lots.. The contest is open to all 4th-8th graders, and will provide students with the opportunity to participate in fun individual and group math contests.  There is also a fun raffle for the students. Prizes will be awarded to high scoring individuals and groups, and the elementary and junior high schools with the highest scores will receive the Davis All-City Math Tournament championship title. Curious math students of all skill levels are encouraged to participate!! There is a $10 registration fee that may be waived for students who are unable to pay.
  • And if you need *more* math: Math Festival!!  May 12th in the IDC.The 5th annual Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival invites you to explore intriguing mathematical activities.   • 9th graders! The time to invade the dance floor is nearing so get your presale tickets this week in the IDC at lunch to save money and get ready to party on Friday! Buy your tickets today and tomorrow at lunch for $7, or at the door this Friday for $10.
  • 9th Grade Dance DonationsAttention Parents: The Da Vinci/Emerson, Harper and Holmes ASB are looking for donations for our upcoming All-DJUSD 9th Grade Dance on Friday, April 27th. We are hoping to collect items to sell to raise money for the 9th Grade Trip and upcoming 9th grade school activities/events.   • 9th Grade Dance ChaperonesAttention Parents: We are hoping to get some Emerson/Da Vinci, Harper and Holmes JHS parents/guardians to help chaperone the All-DJUSD 9th Grade Dance on Friday, April 27th. The event runs from 7:00-9:30 and we are asking chaperones to please arrive by 6:40 (to the Emerson/Da Vinci Junior High School Indoor Commons) so we can get everyone acclimated before the students arrive.   • In celebration of National Bike to School day (and alliteration) , Leadership class and Street Smarts are  hosting a  Bike, Bagels Breakfast event at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 9th at the Humboldt bike racks. Bike riders are encouraged to stop by for free bagel and cream cheese and raffle prizes.
  • Come see the Emerson and Da Vinci school play, the Time Machine, presented by the Drama class. Follow the story of time traveler Filby, and his housekeeper Mrs. Watchet as they travel to the future. The performance will be held in the IDC on May 24th at 6:30 pm.

On this day in 1990 the space shuttle Discovery placed the Hubble Space Telescope into its orbit; today is the birthday of actor and voice actor Hank Azaria, who is the voice of numerous Simpsons characters such as Moe the bartender, Chief Wiggum, and Apu who owns the Quickie Mart.
